Why Do GFCIs Keep Tripping?
نویسندگان
چکیده
As well known, ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) are used to protect people from electric shock. Recently, a manufacturer installed variable speesd drives (VSDs) in all their products. After receiving feedback from their customers, they realized that their products would only work when powered through some GFCI outlets but not work when powered through others. To investigate this problem, the authors purchased different types of commercially available GFCIs and tested each using the standard Electrical Fast Transient (EFT) test. The purpose of the EFT test was to simulate the emissions of a variable speed drive. Three out of eight GFCIs tested were found to trip at different voltage levels indicating that the EFT test could be useful to differentiate the performance of different types of GFCIs in terms of their ability to handle impulses from VSD products. Analysis of GFCI Data
This report reanalyzes data from a survey of Ground-Fault Current Interrupters (GFCIs), conducted by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). In that study, participating home inspectors in a number of cities added testing of receptacle and circuit breaker GFCIs to their normal home inspections. The home inspectors reported this data to NEMA. Also as part of the study, homeowne...
متن کاملWhy we need to read and understand literature: literariness and Hans Rosling’s Factfulness (2018)
My article addresses the qualities of “good” literature and how an understanding of the nature of literary devices, so-called “literariness”, can enhance the reading experience. Focusing on Hans Rosling’s Factfulness (2018), I discuss some of the most important features of good writing. Six literary devices have been selected for special attention: point of view, tone, amplification, anecdotes,...
متن کاملExperimental Investigation of wake on an elliptic cylinder in the presence of tripping wire
In this research, the behavior and characteristics of the wake of flow in an elliptic cylinder with zero angle of attack in the presence of a tripping wire were investigated experimentally. For this purpose, the used an Aluminum cylinder with an elliptical cross section of the major and minor axis of 42.4 mm and 21.2 mm, respectively, and of the height of 390 mm. The cylinder model was examined...
